Inside Devoxx France 2025: Engineering at Scale with Criteo

A look at our talks on Kubernetes, Aerospike, CI/CD, and frontend reactivity.

One more year, we participated in a new Devoxx France edition in Paris last April. This conference is an important milestone every year, and we are always excited to support the tech community in Paris and across France.

This year, as proud Gold Sponsors, we had a booth and an amazing team on hand. If you had the chance to stop by our place, you probably enjoyed the sweet treat we offered to our visitors: cotton candy! Our Criteos at the booth were happy to engage with everyone and share conversations about our challenges and how we use different technologies to succeed as one of the largest AdTech companies in the world.

🎤 Our Talks: Sharing Knowledge with the Community

At Devoxx France 2025, our team had the privilege of delivering four diverse and deeply technical talks, showcasing our expertise across infrastructure, data engineering, CI/CD, and frontend development.

Here’s a recap of each session (protip: on YouTube you can switch the audio track to listen to the talk in the original language 🇫🇷 or English 🇬🇧).

⚙️ Continuous evolution of Kubernetes/NOSQL clusters supporting 300 Million QPS

Speakers:

Criteo successfully manages the continuous evolution of Kubernetes/NoSQL clusters supporting 300 Million queries per second through collaboration between the Hardware, Container Platform, and NoSQL teams. The implementation of feature flags allowed for safer testing and deployment of experimental features, enabling the detection and rectification of performance regressions.

Key points:

  • Team Collaboration: Successful collaboration between Hardware, Container Platform, and NoSQL teams.
  • Maintenance System: Simplified testing of experimental features and deployment of production changes, leading to a safer and less labor-intensive process.
  • Feature Flags Implementation: Allowed gradual rollout and swift reversion of changes, enabling the identification and rectification of performance regressions.

🗃️ Aerospike as a key-value store at scale — feedback from Criteo

Speakers:

Come learn about Aerospike and how Criteo plans and operates its real-time data distribution platform to serve its high-traffic business applications using Aerospike and without the need for additional caching.

In this talk, Peter, head of the NoSQL team at Criteo, will present the challenges of this platform, as well as the methods and tools used daily to ensure performance. Particular attention will be paid to capacity planning activities, the characteristics of the underlying infrastructure, as well as performance monitoring.

🧩 Dependencies galore: the ins and outs of large-scale multi-repository CI

Speaker: Emmanuel Guérin, Staff Software Reliability Engineer

Implementing continuous integration is now commonplace in the industry. But there are still few solutions for doing this effectively across hundreds of repositories, bringing together thousands of projects.

How do you manage dependencies between projects? How do you know the quality of each project? How do you automate client validation of a project before even merging a pull request?

In this session, we’ll revisit the basics of the problem. Then, we’ll present different approaches to solving it, their advantages and disadvantages, through feedback from our experience on the subject at Criteo.

🌐 Let’s explore how the reactivity of modern frontend frameworks works

Speaker: Sylvain Dedieu, Senior Software Development Engineer

The word “reactivity” is omnipresent whenever we read an article or listen to a podcast about a frontend framework.

But what does this term mean? Even more concretely, how is this reactivity translated into code within our favorite frameworks?

We will perform open-heart surgery on Vue, React, Svelte, and Angular to understand their internal DOM “refresh” mechanisms.

We will focus more on the latter, which is in the process of completely changing its reactive logic. The goal of this focus is to present the challenges the core team is currently facing and, above all, the near future of Angular.

So if you want to be reactive, follow the guide!

Devoxx France is definitely the place to be for us every year in Paris and it was an incredible opportunity to connect with the broader tech community, share our engineering insights, and learn from others pushing the boundaries of software development.

From the energy at our booth to the depth of our talks, we’re proud of the conversations we sparked and the knowledge we exchanged. A huge thank you to the organizers, attendees, and everyone who stopped by to chat, ask questions, or attend our sessions.

If you missed us at Devoxx or want to dive deeper, check out the talk recordings above — and stay tuned for more updates, stories, and events from our team!

And, by the way, we are hiring! 😉 Became one of us 👽
